You know that meal you assume that all of your friends had on their table for dinner growing up? That recipe that you can’t imagine your childhood without? Well, hamburger pie is that recipe for me. This meal was a staple in our weekly routine when I was younger. It was always good, and welcome after a tough lacrosse practice, or long day at school. When I started making dinner for my husband, I incorporated it into our meal circuit. He was blown away. I think he might have even said ‘this is the best thing you ever made’- now he says that quite often so it has turned into a little bit of a little boy that cried wolf scenario, but I’ll take it! This is an easy meal that feeds a family and takes under 30 minutes. With four main ingredients, it can be whipped together in no time. Now I call that week night dinner success!
- 1.25 lbs ground beef or turkey (I used 93/7 ground turkey)
- poultry seasoning
- 1 package of reduced fat crescent rolls
- 4 slices american cheese
- 1 container of french fried onion rings
Preheat the oven to 375. Grease a 9×13 Pyrex dish and line it with the raw crescent rolls.
Brown the ground beef or turkey in a medium saucepan and season to taste.
Spoon ground beef into the Pyrex dish on top of the raw crescent rolls. Top with 4 slices of american cheese and french fried onion rings.
Bake for 12 minutes, slice and enjoy!
